Yadgir: CID officials found 150 quintals of rice earmarked for PDS stores – ration shops – worth Rs 1.21 crore illegally stored at a few mills in Yadgir district.
Sources said that the hoarded rice was stored in a cotton mill situated in front of two rice mills. “There are two cotton mills – Lakshmi Timappa and Ginning Mill – situated in front of Shrilakshmi and Shrilakshmi Balaji rice mills.
However, you cannot find even a single weaving machine in either of the two cotton mills. CID discovered the illegally stored rice in a godown of one of the cotton mills,” a source said.
On finding such a large quantity of rice, CID officials immediately intimated the Food and Civil Supplies Department, authorities of which have been asked to inspect the foodgrains and register a case.
Yadgir Additional Deputy Commissioner Ramesh Kolara said, “We estimate the weight of the rice seized to be around 150kg. CID officials also found mixed millets that were stored illegally. But they will be weighed systematically and a case registered subsequently.”
