A circular has been issued by the horticulture commissioner that the department's officials have to mandatorily visit the sites where cultivation is being carried out,  every Thursday.

According to the circular, additional director, joint director, deputy director, senior assistant director and the officials of the farmer contact centres have to, from now on, visit the sites where horticulture is being undertaken.

If Thursday is a holiday, they have to visit the plots the next day. If they disobey the order without proper reasons, then disciplinary  action will be initiated against them, said commissioner Y S Patil.

The officers are supposed to visit the spot and upload the pictures indicating the status of the  polyhouse, shade sheet, onion warehouse, packing house, agricultural ponds, expanded plots, drip irrigation units on to Instagram, the circular has specified.

The commissioner has stated that the officers have to visit those areas where little progress has been made, on priority and discuss the problems the farmers are facing with them.
