India Classic Arts (ICA) headed by Roopa Iyer is hosting a fashion show for ‘Miss KSIC’ and ‘Miss Mysore Sandal’ titles, at J K Grounds here in the coming month. It would be open for those in the age group of 18 to 25 years.

However, the date of contests is yet to be finalised, said Roopa, Managing Director of ICA. It’s also for the first time that Mysore has been on the list. In the eighth year of its inception, the events were held mostly in Bangalore.

Walk the ramp

Sharing the details with Deccan Herald, Roopa said that the contestants would be walking the ramp along with 10 kids comprising HIV infected, specially abled, orphans, specially challenged among others who have found shelter in different places.

The intention behind this unique programme is to give such neglected kids donning greasepaint an opportunity to stand on a podium.

For contestants, they have to really slog hard, as clinching the titles isn’t going to be an easy task. There is no ceiling on the numbers of contestants. Also, it would be a free entry for the participants.

No juries

However, only 15 would be selected for second and final rounds in both the categories. Most importantly, it would be public firing posers to the finalists, not the juries. And, it would pave way for an interesting debate, adds Roopa.

Why this event? Roopa feels this is to educate the ‘educated’ mass. After ‘Mukhaputa’, the award winning film on the travails of HIV infected kids, her yearning for the neglected lot has grown manifold.

Be it poverty or AIDS, education is the only tool to change the society and its biases towards the affected, Roopa reaffirms.
