Mysuru: A civil engineer from KR Pet taluk in Mandya district and an engineering student from Belur taluk in Hassan district were among 11 who lost their lives in a stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Bhumik (20) from Kuppagodu village in Belur taluk was pursuing BE second-year in a college in Bengaluru. Bhumik was the lone son of D T Lakshmana, a businessman.
“My son was not killed by terrorists in Kashmir. If there is no safety for our lives in our own state, what can we do? We have lost our only son. If they cannot make proper arrangements for the event, why do we need such a government? The government is responsible for the tragedy,” a teary-eyed Lakshmana told DH. The last rites were performed at Kuppagodu village on Thursday.
A pall of gloom descended on Rayasamudra in KR Pet taluk, Mandya district, on Thursday when the body of Poornachandra was brought to the village. Chandru, a relative of the victim, said, “Poornachandra was a civil engineer with a private company in Mysuru. He was planning to get married this year. Hours before his tragic death, he along with his family visited a girl’s family.”
