Kalaburagi: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday reiterated that his government is committed to constituting a separate ministry for Kalyana Karnataka region.

“It’s been a long-pending demand. I have said during the event to mark Hyderabad-Karnataka Liberation Day about forming a separate secretariat for the all-round development of the region. I will discuss it with my Cabinet colleagues and a decision will soon be made on the same,” the CM told reporters at Kalaburagi airport.

After inaugurating a new building of the Kalaburagi branch of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in the city, Siddaramaiah said, “According to D M Nanjundappa report, as many as 39 taluks in Kalaburagi and Belagavi divisions were identified as most backward taluks. Over Rs 35,000 crore has been spent so far to mitigate regional imbalance."

"But we have not seen any visible progress in the most backward taluks. Hence, our government has constituted a high-level committee led by economist Prof Govindarao. Based on the report we will formulate programmes and take steps to implement them.”  

“The tur farmers in the region have sought a package. We have asked for a report on the crop damage and condition of farmers. Based on the report, the government will take an appropriate decision,” the CM said. In Kalaburagi district alone, the farmers have lost tur to blight disease on more than 2 lakh hectares.
