Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the network of Indira Canteens would be strengthened across Karnataka and 184 new ones would be opened gradually.
Siddaramaiah declared after dedicating nine Indira Canteens under Hinkal, Hootagalli, Periyapatna, Bannur, Sargur, Bogadi, Kadkola, and Ramanahalli Town Panchayats, at a function organised by Mysuru District Administration and Urban Development department, at Hinkal, Mysuru city, on Saturday.
Siddaramaiah said, “When I became chief minister for the first time, I launched Indira Canteens with an aim to alleviate the hunger of the poor, daily wage laborers, and people visiting hospitals at lower cost”.
“In 2017, we invited Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to inaugurate the Indira Canteens. However, in the subsequent period, during the term of other parties, the Indira Canteens were neglected. Now that we are in power, we are not only inaugurating nine new Indira Canteens here in Hinkal, but we are also starting 184 new canteens soon," he added.
Mentioning the significance of Hinkal, Siddaramaiah said, “During my initial days of political career, Hinkal gave me strength. I am committed to the development of Hinkal. All that is necessary for Hinkal will be provided in phases. A PUC college will be established soon. Engineers and officials will be posted in vacant posts, to oversee development”.
District In-charge Minister H C Mahadevappa, Municipal Administration and Hajj Minister Rahim Khan, MLAs G T Devegowda, Tanveer Sait, K Harish Gowda, MLCs Yathindra Siddaramaiah and D Thimmaiah, Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikantha Reddy, and Zilla Panchayat CEO S Yukesh Kumar were present.
