Mangaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to social justice and constitutional values during the convention held as a part of 22nd quinquennial Uroos of Seyyid Muhammad Shareeful Madani Dargah in Ullal on Friday.
“We believe in social justice by giving opportunities to all. The government is committed to working as per the aspirations of the Constitution,” he said. He urged citizens to rise above caste and religion, live harmoniously, and treat one another as brothers and sisters.
Calling for peace and mutual respect, Siddaramaiah said, “We are all human beings. We should stay away from communalism and hate, and instead promote love, equality, and brotherhood.”
He acknowledged criticism from Hindutva supporters but said he remains undeterred. “I believe in inclusive governance and taking everyone along,” he added.
Highlighting the government’s welfare initiatives, he noted that five guarantee schemes are being implemented to uplift the poor and ensure socio-economic justice. “To maintain peace and tranquility, we must lead a secular life,” he said.
Reflecting on his tenure, Siddaramaiah said, “Devaraj Urs served two terms as Karnataka CM. I will be the second to do so. This government will complete two years on May 20 and Sankalpa samavesha is being planned.”
During the event, Siddaramaiah also unveiled the blueprint for the Grand Jumma Masjid at Ullal. Dargah Committee President Haneef Haji said the marble-clad mosque will span 90,000 square feet and accommodate up to 10,000 people at a time for offering namaz.
Indian Grand Mufti Sultanul Ulema and Ullal Qazi Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar praised the CM for championing social justice.
Speaker U T Khader thanked the CM for sanctioning a Rs 1,000 crore grant for the development of the Mangaluru constituency (formerly Ullal). Ullal dargah is not restricted to a religion but is a place for communal harmony.
District in Charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, Hajj Minister Rahim Khan, former minister CM Ibrahim, Manjeshwara MLA Ashraf , MLC Ivan D'Souza and others were present.
