In a bid to encourage farmers and give a boost to agricultural activities, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will be planting paddy in five acres of land on the outskirts of Sitapur in Pandavapura taluk, Mandya district, on August 11.

For the last two years, paddy cultivation in the district had taken a hit owing to non-availability of water. The Agriculture department too had asked the farmers not to cultivate paddy, which is a water-intensive crop. This year, however, agricultural activities have heightened, owing to good rains in the entire Cauvery catchment area.

Kumaraswamy will be spending three hours with the farmers during the sowing activity.
