CMC president Kavitha Shekar presented Rs 3.33 crore surplus budget for 2017-18. The budget promised to supply water 24X7 under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme and also aimed at increasing the beauty of the town by maintaining cleanliness.

The CMC is expecting an income of Rs 40.05 crore. The president said that the Municipality is proposing to collect parking fee on MG Road, IG Road and Ambedkar Road and expects to get a sum of Rs 40 lakh from it. The Municipality is expecting Rs 2 crore from the auctioning of sites.

SC/ST welfare

The president also said that Rs 2.30 crore has been earmarked for the welfare of the SC/ST community members, Rs 69 lakh for the poor and Rs 29 lakh for the welfare of the physically challenged.

Stating that the City Municipality will give thrust on door-to-door waste collection, the president said that four tractors, two earth movers, 10 auto tippers, 1 segregation machines would be purchased by the City Municipality. To encourage people to segregate waste at source, two bins would be distributed among the households, which would be implemented from April 10. Toilets would be constructed in 500 houses in 35 wards of the City Municipality, she added.

A full-fledged complex would be constructed at the old vegetable market and vacant sites on MG Road. Houses would be constructed on the ‘G plus two’ model for 1,511 beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, she announced. The garbage on vacant sites should be cleared by the site owners. Those who violate it would be slapped with a fine of Rs 5,000, she said.

The CMC has also decided to make rainwater harvesting, solar water heater and car parking mandatory for new commercial buildings, said the president.
