Mudigere, Chikkamagaluru district: A coffee exporter has donated Rs 2.18 crore to a government school near his coffee curing unit in the taluk. He has admitted his son in the same school.
Santhosh, the owner of Mudremane Coffee Curing Unit, studied in a government school and established himself as a coffee exporter. He has donated Rs 2.18 cr to government higher primary school in Muttigeapura village. Established in 1973, this school at present has 363 students.
Eight well-equipped classrooms have been constructed with the contribution made by Santhosh. An auditorium has been built at a cost of Rs 18 lakh, while four more classrooms have been added under Viveka Scheme at a cost of Rs 56 lakh. A total of 12 classrooms are set to be inaugurated on February 28.
Contributions have been pouring in for this school from many donors. Businessman Siddiq, a native of the village who is currently based in Saudi Arabia, has donated a purified drinking water unit worth Rs 60,000 to the school. A company by name Sharlin Williams has contributed Rs 18 lakh worth of furniture. The Youth for Seva organisation has provided eight computers along with tables required for their use. Donors have come forward to instal 20 CCTV cameras across the school premises and classrooms. Contributions have also been made to construct a high-tech midday meal kitchen at a cost of Rs 5 lakh.
SDMC president Madhukumar said donors have been supporting the school, which is becoming a model in the state.
