The protestors said that in 2007-08, coffee harvest in 20,000 hectare land was damaged due to heavy rains. However, under natural calamity fund, the grower did not get a single paise.
“The growers in Chikmagalur and Hassan districts were given compensation. However, by not distributing compensation to the growers, government is making partiality towards Kodagu growers,” protesters said
Owing to heavy rains in July, growers have incurred a huge loss. The government should waive off loan and interest, said Okkuta Working President Kattimandayya.
A memorandum was submitted to Chief Minister through district administration. Speaking after receiving the memorandum, DC Ashwatha Narayana Gowda said “government has not released any compensation for loss in coffee harvest.”
Coming down heavily on loadshedding announced by Energy Minister K S Ishwarappa, the protestors said “all the reservoirs are overflowing. The decision of loadshedding should be withdrawn at any cost.”
They also urged the authorities to repair roads in villages and fill the post of doctors in government hospitals.
