The third season of the Metrolife Fashion Show got off to a great start on Saturday at MS Ramaiah College, where 30 teams from the North Zone turned up to battle it out on the ramp.
There were only four spots in the finale, reserved for the best of this zonal round and the participating students gave the show their all. This season witnessed some interesting themes in both ethnic and Western categories: an entire collection inspired by animal print, traditional wear with a contemporary twist and even some innovative designs fashioned out of plastic and leaves.
Colleges such as Army Institute of Fashion, Garden City College, CMR Centre for Business Studies and Aurobindo First Grade College for Women, among others, put their best foot forward to impress the audience.
The celebrity judges for the event added a touch of glamour to the proceedings: designer Pavithra Halkatti, as well as actors Nikki Galrani, Tarun Arora and Sindhu Loknath. All four were visibly impressed by the designs showcased on the ramp and admitted that choosing the four finalists was a tough call.
Eventually, after a dazzling display of creativity, MS Ramaiah Medical College emerged the winner with their newspaper-themed collection; the girls from Mount Carmel College came second and the team from Acharya Institute of Technology came third.
The last college to bag a place in the finale was St Joseph’s College of Arts and Science, with their ‘Going Gaga’ theme. These four colleges will now compete with the four finalists of the South Zone - to be held on August 24 at Oxford College - to determine the winner of the Metrolife Fashion Show.
The finale will be held at Dayananda Sagar Institutions on August 31. Talking about their plans for the finale, Amit, a student of MS Ramaiah Medical College, said the team was planning on improving on their collection and putting together an unforgettable show.
The perfect touch to the evening was a dance performance by the students of MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology. The three dance societies of the institute - Inferno, FTN and Lasya - came together to showcase a dazzling sequence that left one and all impressed.
