He was speaking after inaugurating an international symposium on challenges in drug discovery programme- 2011, organised by Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) at its campus.

Elaborating on the topic, Krishnan said the drug invented at the laboratory can be described as an innovation only from its commercial success again. And what it takes to the innovation is the translation, a period that is very difficult to achieve. For any drug, it has to pass through the three phases- while the phase one is simple and needs a minimum investment, the phase two calls for complying with the set norms of the government. And, the final stage too is not a cake walk.

In his call to the young scientists who had converged at the hall, Krishnan said one should not rest after taking their innovation to the market. A post market surveillance is imperative to know its reach and allied facts. Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) Vice-chancellor Prof K S Rangappa, Prof Schin Ichiro Nishimura from Hookkaido University, Japan and others were present.
