Community kitchens, an initiative by the Central government under the special programme of Indian Oil Corporation is being set up to enable people to save gas and time while cooking.

At Manchenahalli, the community kitchen has been set up by Shranik Indane Enterprises, Lions Club and Taluk Health Department at the Government Hospital premises.

The project is mooted as part of the Union Government's ‘Vision-2015' programme to make the domestic LPG available to the deprived sections of society wherever possible through the common LPG kitchen mode.

For poor patients

The programme, especially aimed at the family members of poor patients admitted at the hospital.

People can get LPG on payment of Rs 2 for every 15 minutes of its use. Users will not have to bring their own oven, as it is being provided free of cost with LPG.  The kitchens are under the supervision of an Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) personnel.

As per the scheme guidelines, a minimal cooking charge of Rs. 5.67 for an hour would be levied from the users of community kitchen.

He further said that the government has released Rs 2.5 crore to Manchenahalli Panchayat under Suvarna Grama Yojana  of the State government and various work will be taken up soon.

ZP member Jagannath, Chief Area Manager Dilip Rai and Taluk Health Officer R Gundu Rao were present.
