Ten-year-old Anshul has been eagerly waiting for the Metro Green line to be functional ever since the work began in front of his house.

He has already travelled in the Swiss metro and the one in Delhi, but was eager to experience it in his own City. On Saturday morning, he could not wait to be among the first commuters on the Green line. Anshul coaxed his grandfather to join him in his early morning trip.

“I will of course tell all my classmates about this trip. I have been waiting for so long to travel in this metro. The train passes right opposite my house,” the class five student of NPS told Deccan Herald.

The first trip on Green line Metro between Sampige Road and Peenya saw a considerable crowd on Saturday morning. Despite it being a weekend, several enthusiasts made it at 6 am to be among the first for the ride on the new line. As soon as the train started from the Malleswaram station, passengers applauded.

Several had come equipped with cameras to click photographs of their experience of the ride. Others - residents of areas in the vicinity of the stations - were busy trying to spot their houses as the train chugged past stations.

The early morning view of the city from the train enthralled the commuters. Some Metro officials too joined the public in their cheer. It was also a moment of joy for Govinda Raju and Umesh who were drivers for the first trip from Peenya to Sampige Road.

The first passengers to buy tickets for the 6 am trip at Sampige Road Station were Ananth Krishna and his wife Ramya who had come with their son Pushkar. They had travelled from Vijayanagar. “I wanted to get a feel of it. It was systematic and well arranged. However, quite a lot of work is pending,” he said.
