But the kin of most of the victims say that neither Air India nor the government have done much to help them, except the Rs one lakh compensation given to them soon after the tragedy.
“Many people came visiting soon after the tragedy. But none came thereafter,” said S M Abdul, the grandfather of Mohammed Aban Ruknuddin, one of the victims.
Ruknuddin was returning home with his mother Najia Afrin, after his summer holidays. They had been visiting his father who works in Dubai.
Eight people from Bhatkal taluk, besides one each from Karwar and Dandeli were among the dead in the crash of the flight from Dubai.
Najia Afrin, Abdul Bahar Chamundhi, Mohammed Aban Ruknuddin, Abdul Nasir Damudi, Zubeda, Usman Mohiddin, Ahmed Faraz and Bibisara are the dead, hailing from Bhatkal taluk. Damudi had left for Dubai just a month before the tragedy. He was returning home, along with his children, after the death of his wife when they perished in the disaster.
Mahendra Kodkani of old Dandeli and Prasad Anandu Manjrekar (28) of Kadavada Sultanpur, both in Karwar taluk, were also among the dead. Manjrekar worked as an AC mechanic at a company in Dubai and was on him way to his village after two-and-half years.
