Science and Technology Minister and Kodagu District In-charge Minister M R Seetharam, on Tuesday, called on the family members of Rashtriya Swayam-sevak Sangha (RSS) worker Praveen Poojary, who was murdered on Sunday night.

Poojary was returning home on Sunday night, after taking part in atorchlight rally organised as part of Akhanda Bharat Sankalpa Yatre, when three unidentified persons hired his vehicle and stabbed him to death, near Guddehosur here.

Seethram met Praveen’s father and said that the those behind Poojary’s murder would be arrested soon. Later, Seetharam told newsmen: “The family is entitled for compensation provided for victims in communal riots case.”

On attempts to vitiate peaceful atmosphere, Seetharam cautioned vested interests against indulging in such activities, irrespective of individuals or organisation, with their provocative speeches.

He also appealed for restoring peace in Kodagu, instead of misusing the issue for political gain.

MLC Sunil Subramani said Rs 5 lakh should be given as compensation to Poojary’s dependents. SP P Rajendra Prasad said the probe has begun and those indulging in disturbing peace in the district will be booked under Goonda Act.

Eerie silence

As the ban order has been clamped till Wednesday midnight, the police have appealed to public to ignore rumours and maintain peace. Due to restrictions, unlawful assembly of people is also prohibited.

As Kushalnagar remains tense, additional forces have been summoned from neighbouring Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar districts. The police personnel have been deployed at vital installations in the town, besides  places of worhsip.
