A compound wall which was coming in the way of widening the Hunasuru-Talacauvery state highway and also a drain work at Panjarupete, was demolished on Sunday. Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tewari had directed the officials to clear the structure.

The compound wall which belonged to two houses was affecting the road work for the last one year and was also causing inconvenience to public and motorists. Virajpet Tahsildar Prasanna Murthy and PWD Assistant Executive Engineer Heggade monitored the demolition. The work on the highway was completed at Panjarupete on one side. However, the presence of the compound wall was posing hindrance to the work on other side. Also, the work on a 800-metre long drain could be completed only till 500 metre due to the wall.

Engineer G Devaraj said “the work was lying pending for the last one year. The work on the drain could be completed by February. As an electric pole needs to be shifted, the work on the road might take more time.”
