The Congress and the JD(S) continue to reign over the Mysore region with both parties gaining hold over two districts each in the just concluded 14th Assembly elections in the State. The BJP, which had earlier managed to make inroads, has, however, been washed out of the Cauvery belt.

In Mysore district, the Congress has bagged seven seats, while its competitor the JD(S) has captured three seats. Its star candidate from Varuna, Siddaramaiah, has recorded a thumping victory against Ka Pu Siddalingaswamy of the KJP. Siddaramaiah garnered 84,385 votes and defeated his neartest rival by 29,641 votes.

Siddaramaiah, touted as the chief ministerial candidate, had won by a margin of 18,837 against L Revannasiddaiah of the BJP in 2008. This is Siddaramaiah’s seventh victory.
“My victory margin will be over 25,000 votes,” Siddaramaiah had told Deccan Herald before the elections.

In Mandya

The other big win of the region is that of actor M H Ambareesh who trounced sitting MLA M Srinivas in Mandya by 42,937 votes. Ambareesh bagged an impressive 90,329 votes. The KPCC vice president made up for the rebellion he had created and donned the role of the star campaigner. His party has managed to retain two seats in the district.

In Hassan

H D Revanna of the JD(S) retained his seat in Holenarsipura in Hassan district, where his party has managed to hold on to five seats, while the Congress gained the remaining two.

Major losers: Shocking defeats came for BJP candidate and Medical Education Minister S A Ramdas who was trounced by Congress’ M K Somashekar in the Krishnaraja segment.
H S Shankarlingegowda, who defected to the JD(S) from the BJP, also lost to Congress’ Vasu in Chamaraja constituency. While Ramdas is a three-time MLA, the latter is a four-time MLA.

Chamarajanagar

The Congress has scored a thumping victory in Chamarajanagar yet again, capturing all the four constituencies. H S Mahadevaprasad, a Lingayat, has recorded his fifth consecutive win from Gundlupet. He beat KJP candidate C S Niranjankumar by 7,675 votes.

He has promised to bring the Congress chief minister to the jinxed Chamarajanagar town within one month of the government’s formation.

Chamarajanagar was bagged by Congress’ C Puttarangashetty (Uppara), who is winning for the second time. He beat KJP’s K R Mallikarjunappa by 11,196 votes. In Hanur, Congress candidate R Narendra (Vokkaliga) scored his second victory by beating JD(S)’ Parimala Nagappa by 10,906 votes, while in Kollegal (SC Reserve), Congress’ S Jayanna (SC Adikarnataka) beat BSP’s N Mahesh by 10,193 votes.
