Belagavi: Hitting the BJP where it hurts the most, the Congress on Tuesday launched an offensive against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), accusing the Hindutva fount of insulting BR Ambedkar's Constitution.
Attacking the RSS was the overarching theme at the Congress' Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan' rally, which was held as part of the centenary celebration of the 1924 AICC session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi at Belagavi.
"We are ready to die for the Constitution, which is our ideology," Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi said, describing the BJP-RSS as "cowards".
Priyank charged that RSS members had burned Ambedkar's effigy. "The BJP, which is the RSS' offspring, feels emboldened to insult Ambedkar and his Constitution," she said. "In 2024, the people taught the BJP a lesson, which scared Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After that, when he went to Parliament, he bowed before the Constitution. You made him do this," she said.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge likened Priyanka to Kittur Rani Chennamma and Jhansi Rani Lakshmibai for her fight against the BJP-RSS. "The BJP today keeps chanting Ambedkar's name and bows before the Constitution. What drama! If there is anyone who burnt the Constitution, the effigies of Ambedkar and Nehru, it is BJP, the RSS and Hindu Mahasabha," he said.
