Lingayat leaders in the Congress party have convened a meeting to assert their importance in the next Assembly elections.
Around 25 Lingayat MLAs and MLCs will gather at legislator Shamanur Shivashankarappa’s residence Monday evening, where a resolution will be passed demanding that the next Assembly elections be fought under a Lingayat leader, party sources said.
They, however, would not demand the chief ministerial post for their community leader, sources said.
The legislators will go to New Delhi to submit their memorandum to the high command, the sources added.
