M M Hills, Chamarajanagar district: "The Congress government has constituted authorities for the development of prominent religious shrines in the state. Why did the BJP or the JD(S) not take such measures," asked Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.

He was speaking after darshan of Malai Mahadeshwara Swamy, before taking part in the Special Cabinet meeting, here, on Thursday.

"Along with MM Hill Temple authority, we have formed Yellamma savadatti and Chamundeshwari temple authority," he added.

"The whole government has come to the district to fulfill the expectations of the people. Earlier, people had to travel for more than five hours to visit the temple. Now, we have good roads and lakhs of people visit the temple everyday crossing river Cauvery. We have plans to construct an overbridge after the Mekedatu project," he said.
