The State Congress on Wednesday suspended Chitradurga zilla panchayat president Sowbhagya Basavarajan from the party's primary membership.
Sowbhagya was supposed to have stepped down from the post of zilla panchayat president 15 months after she was elected, something she had agreed to do so as to give others a chance.
Refuses to step down
However, Sowbhagya did not step down despite repeated directives from senior leaders.
Recently, a delegation of party leaders from Chitradurga, led by Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya, petitioned All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of Karnataka K C Venugopal to remove her the post of zilla panchayat president.
