Congress Working Committee meeting in Delhi on Friday

New Delhi: Congress will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Congress presidency of Mahatma Gandhi in Belagavi next month.

This was announced after a meeting of Congress Working Committee (CWC) here chaired by party president Mallikarjun Kharge.

"On 26 December, 1924, Mahatma Gandhi was elected the Congress president in the Belgaum session. We are celebrating the 100th anniversary of that celebration in Belagavi. The extended Working Committee will be held followed by a massive rally in Belagavi," Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal told a press conference.

Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh said the events will be held on December 26 and 27, which includes the rally and the meeting of the extended CWC.

The Mahatma assumed the presidency of Congress in December and held it till April 1925 when Sarojini Naidu took charge  in the Kanpur Session.

This was the only time the Mahatma had assumed the presidency of Indian National Congress.
