Majority of Congress workers in the city have threatened to resign en masse as District Congress unit president M Anjanappa was denied of a party ticket to contest in the upcoming Assembly election.
Anjanappa was the ticket aspirant from the constituency. In the third list that the party released on Tuesday, the party has given ticket to Dr Sudhakar.
Opposing the party’s decision, many Congress workers staged a protest here on Tuesday. To register their protest, they even pelted stones on the party office, too.
“Anjanappa has been serving the party since decades but he has been ignored by the party. Dr Sudhakar, who has newly joined the party, has been favoured. This is unfair,” remarked angry protesters. They were also upset over Union Minister M Veerappa Moily and former minister S M Krishna for the development.
Anjanappa, who was undergoing a treatment at a hospital in Bangalore came to the party office.
He was visibly shocked over the party’s decision.
“Despite being a loyal to party, I have been neglected by the party. Party has cheated me. Thanks to S M Krishna’s politics of conspiracy. Money and caste factors are the only factors that are ruling the election this time. I will not tolerate this. I will discuss my future moves with my supporters and decide on it,” said teary M Anjanappa.
Rebels may contest as Independents
A few Congress party leaders, it is learnt, may file four to five nominations as independent candidates on Wednesday.
After holding discussions with the party workers, M Anjanappa, his wife, advocate Narayanswami, Gangrekaluve Narayanswami and Yaluvahalli N Ramesh will file nominations as independent candidates on Wednesday, as it is the last day to do so, Yaluvahalli N Ramesh told Deccan Herald.”
Amid opposition, party candidate Dr K Sudhakar filed his nomination on Tuesday. There was no news of him filing nomination papers. However, he is said to be filing the nomination again on Wednesday between 2 pm and 3 pm and he will be accompanied by his supporters.
“There is no enmity between Anjanappa and I. Since I was given the ticket, I’m contesting. I’m confident that he would support me in the election,” Dr K Sudhakar said.
