Congress workers staged a protest in front of BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa’s residence in the city on Thursday against the saffron party’s attempts to destabilise the coalition government.

Shouting slogans against Yeddyurappa for trying to do yet another ‘Operation Kamala,’ they tried to storm into his Dollars Colony residence. They were, however, stopped by a few BJP MLAs and workers. Police arrived at the scene before the Congress and BJP workers clashed with each other.

Minutes before the protest, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Yeddyurappa had traded charges against each other.

The BJP charged that Kumaraswamy had instigated the protest and demanded that Governor Vajubhai Vala intervene.

“Congress and JD(S) goons tried to enter Yeddyurappa’s house today. If the BJP MLAs and workers were not there, Yeddyurappa may have been harmed. Police turned a blind eye to the entire episode,” said BJP MLA Govind Karjol.
