As many as 345 Congress men were arrested and detained at CAR grounds in Audugodi, but they continued to protest. The agitation was finally called off around 11.45 pm after Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari assured them of action against those officials who misbehaved with the party leaders.

The Opposition protest was against the government’s alleged failure to take up relief works in drought- and flood-hit areas and to check rampant corruption in the administration.

Police put an end to the attempt to lay siege to the Assembly by arresting the partymen as they attempted to enter the premises in groups violating prohibitory orders.

The arrested included 44 MLAs, 14 MLCs, three ex-MPs, 28 ex-MLAs and three ex-MLCs. Of these, 53 were women legislators.
