Retired Director General and Inspector General of Police Shankar Bidari on Saturday kicked up a storm by saying that all corrupt politicians, IAS and IPS officers should be shot dead in public.

Addressing mediapersons here, he said punishment in all criminal cases should be pronounced within two years of booking the case to create fear of law. “Higher officials and ministers involved in corruption should be given death sentence or they should be shot dead in public,” he said. Corruption will not stop if fear of law is not created, he added.

“Politicians always talk of development as they get commission in implementing the projects and this had ‘developed’ politicians and officials only. Corruption has not spared even the construction of toilets,” he said and wanted to know why open defecation persists if so many toilets are constructed.

HDK hits back

Bidari’s remarks drew sharp criticism from former chief minister and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy. “Bidari has advocated shooting the corrupt dead. Who knows Bidari himself may face it,” he said sarcastically.

Before such incidents happen, it is better to take Bidari into custody, he added.
