Couple found murdered; role of psychopath suspected

Wage labourers Hanumanthappa (50) and Chandramma (44)were found with their throats slit.

A two-year-old boy with the couple, said to be their grandchild, is unharmed, although in shock. Although the murder was committed on Tuesday night, it came to light only in the evening of Wednesday, as the bodies were covered with a blanket.

Passersby who found the bodies lying for a long time, complained to police. The couple worked in the farm house of Dileep.

“The murder could be the handiwork of psychopathic killer Jayashankar, but nothing can be confirmed till investigation is over,” M N Nagaraj, SP, said.

Undertrial escapes

An undertrial escaped from the district jail in Chitradurga on Wednesday.  Mahadevaiah (38) of Nayakanahatty was arrested in connection with a murder.

Police said he jumped the 15-foot wall of the jail while the staff were sweeping the cells in the morning.  A case has been registered at the City police station.
