Mangaluru: The third additional district and sessions court has sentenced Aithuru Gram Panchayat PDO Prem Singh Naik to three years of simple imprisonment after convicting him guilty in a bribery case.

The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000. In case of inability to pay the fine, Naik would have to undergo one month of additional simple imprisonment.

Lokayukta SP Nataraj M A said that the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) had trapped Naik red handed while accepting bribery for issuing the 9/11 document on June 3, 2019. He had demanded a bribe of Rs 9000. He was booked under Sections 7 (a) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 (The Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act 2018).

Police Inspector Shyam Sundar H M was the investigation officer and had submitted a charge sheet to the court. Ravindra Munnippady was the special public prosecutor.
