The Srirangapatna Civil Court has imposed a fine of Rs five lakh on the then chief secretary to government, Srirangapatna DySP and Circle Inspector of Police in connection with the defamation suit case reported in 2013.

Srirangapatna police had arrested former Town Municipal Council president M P Arun Kumar in connection with the money laundering case. Due to lack of evidence, he was acquitted in the case. Later, Arun Kumar had filed a defamation case against the police officers and the then chief secretary was also made a party to the suit. He had demanded a compensation of Rs 1 crore.

The court pronounced the judgement and directed then chief secretary, the then DySP Geetha Prasanna and CPI Arun Nagegowda to pay the fine amount within 90 days of the order. Now, Geetha Prasanna is serving as Additional Superintendent of Police of Chamarajanagar and Nagegowda is DySP in Belagavi.
