Bengaluru: The death toll due to Covid-19 in Karnataka has now increased to 11, with the deaths of a 51-year-old woman in Belagavi and a 79-year-old man in Dakshina Kannada district.
According to the health department, both the deceased had Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI), with symptoms of fever, breathlessness, and cough.
The woman had hypertension and Type 2 diabetes mellitus, along with pleural effusion with ascites (fluid buildup in the chest and abdominal cavities) secondary to chronic kidney disease. She was admitted to a government hospital on June 6 and died due to acute cardiorespiratory arrest two days later.
The older man also had a host of health issues, including hypertension, dyslipidemia, a seizure disorder, osteoporosis, an older case of stroke, hypertension, cervical myelopathy (spinal cord compression in the neck), and benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate). He was admitted to a private hospital on June 6 and he died on June 9 due to Covid pneumonia and other comorbidities.
The number of active Covid positive cases in Karnataka rose to 459 and a cumulative of 1,287 cases, as of Tuesday. While 67 new positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours, a total of 817 patients have recovered since January this year.
Over the past 24 hours, a total of 571 Covid tests have been conducted, and the state's positivity rate stood at 11.73 per cent, with a case fatality rate of 2.98 per cent.
As of Tuesday, 453 of the 459 patients are isolating at home, while six are hospitalised, including two patients who are in the ICU.
