Mangaluru: Despite the entire state living in peace, reports of untoward incidents are emerging from coastal districts, said MLC B K Hariprasad. He emphasized that these regions must not turn into Manipur.

Speaking to reporters in Mangaluru on Thursday, he stated that the city has a good reputation in the state and should not be made into another Manipur.

"As the coastal region is communally sensitive, both the chief minister and home minister have taken wise decisions," B K Hariprasad said he will stand by their decision and 'hope everything will be fine'.

The MLC further stated that the people in the riots and their family members are poor victims.

"The real kingpins are at large. Their identities will be revealed soon. The honest and able police officials will take action,": he said.

To a query, over his recent meeting with the Chief Minister, he said it was a courtesy call. “The rumour about deputing me as the district in-charge minister is baseless. I had requested the CM to initiate action to prevent untoward incidents in the coastal region and he assured me of doing the needful. The CM has also directed me to speak to Congress workers.”

Reacting on the mass resignation by the leaders of Congress minority unit in Dakshina Kannada district, B K Hariprasad said the leaders have resigned after suffering some unfortunate incidents. However, he said he will request the leaders to withdraw their resignation.

“Congress party will not lose them. There is no need to resign”.

He also stated that such incidents should not break the spirit of individuals. Resignation is relevant when the leaders have not worked despite the government supporting them. Congress is in favour of the Constitution and is an ideologically strong party, he said and added that he will speak to the workers in this regard.

'IPL organisers should provide Rs one crore as compensation'

B K Hariprasad said that the organisers of IPL are the owners of thousands of crores of rupees. The organisers should provide a compensation of Rs one crore to the families of those who lost their lives in stampede during the victory celebrations of RCB in Bengaluru. He said that he will urge the government in this regard.

He also stated that RCB is not a team which represents a state or a country. Everyone is pained by the incident and would not like to comment more.

“Being in a responsible position I cannot say what the government has or has not done. The Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister will analyse the same. However, Chinnaswamy stadium, which has the capacity of 35,000 spectators, was flooded with three lakh people. We have one police staff per thousand people. There has been a miscalculation”.

The government should decide on who should be held responsible for the death of 11 people. It was not a programme organised by the government. There was no untoward incident during the function organised by the government in front of the Vidhana Soudha, B K Hariprasad said.

“The organisers should have given a thought before organising the programme in the stadium. Also, cricket fans should have thought about the maximum capacity of the stadium. The victory celebrations could have been stopped soon after the reporting about the deaths.”

It is better for the High Court to register a suo motu case in such cases, he added.
