Crocodile attacks calf

A calf was injured in a crocodile attack near Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary in the taluk on Friday.

The calf was grazing near the Cauvery River when the crocodile suddenly attacked it causing injuries on its thigh and face.

Deputy Range Forest Officer Puttamadegowda said that suitable compensation would be given to the owner of the calf. A report has already been submitted to higher authorities, he said.

There are more than 80 crocodiles belonging to 'Marsh' breed at the bird sanctuary. The crocodiles had attacked a calf around six-months-ago near Boothale Thittu. However, there is no need for anxiety as there are no instances of them attacking humans, he said.
