It will be in force till 7 am on Sunday. However, the curfew was relaxed from 7 to 10 am and from 4 to 6.30 pm on Saturday.
As soon as the curfew was relaxed at 7 am, people were seen purchasing essential commodities until 10 am. Tight security arrangements were in place to prevent any untoward incident.
Schools and colleges declared holiday. However SSLC preparatory examinations and PUC first year examinations were conducted under police protection. Special buses were also arranged for the convenience of students. Elections for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) was held amid tight security.
Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) A R Infant told media persons that curfew would continue till Sunday morning and day curfew would be relaxed if the situation was peaceful.
Forty persons have been arrested in connection with the Friday’s incident and four cases have been registered. A case has been registered over the graffiti written on the gate of a graveyard and investigation is on.
“There was no failure on part of the intelligence wing and no untoward incident has reported since Friday night,” the ADGP maintained.
