The Government is contemplating to introduce cut off ranking in CET for students seeking admissions to BE courses in the poor and meritorious category.
On Wednesday, Limbavali told reporters that a criterion to determine the poor and meritorious students would be introduced in CET 2010.

The private college managements had earlier contended that economically poor students need not necessarily be meritorious. During the first round of meeting with the Government on fee structure, the private college managements had explained that the students availing the concessional fee in the poor and meritorious category were not good enough. The managements had urged for a criterion to ensure that only meritorious poor students enjoyed the concessional fee benefit, following which the decision for a cut off ranking has been proposed.

About the delay in finalising the CET 2010 brochure-cum-application, Limbavali said that a few private engineering colleges are willing to join Karnataka Examination Authority and the Government has to study the implications of including such colleges in the list. "To protect the interest of the students, even if the CET applications are delayed it will cause no harm," the minister said.

On the increase in the percentage of polytechnic students seeking BE admissions through lateral entry, he said that a proposal has been sent to the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) for approval. "The Government has assumed that the Council will agree for the increase in the intake of polytechnic students," he said.

No consensus over fee, seat matrix
Even after a second round of discussion with private engineering colleges' managements, the Government has failed to decide the seat-sharing formula and fee structure for professional courses.

Aravind Limbavali said, in a couple of days another round of discussion will be held with private college managements to finalise the seat matrix and fee structure.
