Belagavi: Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President D K Shivakumar on Friday said that Congress Working Committee (CWC) will hold its extended meeting here on December 26 and 27, to mark the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi presiding over the Congress session held here during freedom movement in the year 1924.

A public meeting has been organised on December 27 at CPEd ground wherein all Congress party leaders and office bearers will participate.

Shivakumar held a meeting with the Congress leaders and reviewed the preparations being made for the centenary event at Congress Bhavan here on Friday.

He told reporters that all CWC members, 150 MPs, 40 Pradesh Congress Committee presidents, legislature party leaders and chief ministers will attend the event.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will host the dinner for the visiting dignitaries on December 26, and welcome them all at Veer Soudha. Public meeting will be held at CPEd ground on December 27 at 11 am. AICC will also pass a resolutions.

AICC General Secretaries K C Venugopal and Ranjeet Surjewala will visit the city next week and prepare the programmes. Responsibilities have been delegated to all the MLAs and leaders for the event, he said.

AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, AICC former president Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will remain in the city for three days and take part in all the programmes on December 26 and 27, he informed.

Shivakumar said electrical illumination made in the city to mark the event has surpassed the decoration made for Mysuru Dasara. "We are spending about Rs 7 crore to Rs 8 crore for the decoration," he said.

The government programmes to mark the centenary will continue for a year.
