Mangaluru: Following the impact of Cyclone Fengal, Dakshina Kannada (DK) received heavy rainfall on Tuesday morning.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an orange alert has been issued for DK.
Mangaluru has been receiving bountiful showers since early morning. Following an inundated road, water had entered a few shops in Kottara Chowki.
With the service road in Pumpwell (Mahaveera Circle) remaining under water, vehicles were seen wading through the flooded stretch.
A compound wall of a house collapsed at Karangalpady and water had entered the house. The Kodialguthu road too was flooded.
The clouds were so dark that the drivers were forced to switch on the headlights while driving vehicles.
In the last 24 hours (ending 8 am on Tuesday), Neere in Udupi received highest of 261 mm rainfall followed by Hejamady – 234 mm, Kaup Tenka – 221 mm, Palimaru – 204 mm, Mudarangadi- 201.5 mm, Belapu- 199.5 mm rainfall. In DK, Bala received the highest of 220.5 mm, Aikala – 211 mm, Kilpady- 199mm, Kinnigoli-195.5 mm, Surathkal- 189 mm, Yekkaru – 184, Kemarl – 182 mm.
The district administration has advised fishermen not to venture into sea till December 6.
As a precautionary measure, DK and Udupi DCs have declared holiday for anganwadis, schools and PU colleges.
