Mangaluru: Special Investigation Team (SIT) pasted copies of legal notices on the houses of activists Mahesh Shetty Timarodi, Girish Mattannavar, T Jayanth and Vittal Gowda.
SIT swung into act after the activists had claimed on not having received any notices. According to SIT sources, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) permits dispatching of legal notices through electronic means, including email and WhatsApp. “Since the accused were already communicating with us through WhatsApp and emails, we considered it appropriate and legally valid to serve the notices through the same medium,” informed a source in SIT.
“But the accused later began raising objections, alleging that they had not been formally served with notices. They are now creating unnecessary hurdles by claiming non-receipt of the notices. To avoid any complications, we also have provided them with hard copies of the same notices,” SIT sources told DH.
