Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and submitted a memorandum requesting key defence infrastructure for the district, including the establishment of a Sainik School and a military base in Mangaluru.
The memorandum highlighted that starting a Sainik School and establishing a military base in the region would inspire youth to serve the nation. Given the presence of world-class educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada, the establishment of a Sainik School would provide significant academic benefits, he noted.
Capt Chowta emphasised that the Defence Department should undertake initiatives in Mangaluru to honour the contributions of former Defence Minister George Fernandes and the sacrifices of national heroes such as Capt Pranjal and Commander George Martis, who laid down their lives for the country.
During the meeting, Capt Chowta sought guidance from Rajnath Singh regarding potential defence sector projects that could be implemented in Dakshina Kannada. On the occasion, Capt Chowta also presented a commemorative gift – an artwork depicting Kambala, symbolising the coastal region’s cultural heritage.
