Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district stood first in Karnataka with the announcement of SSLC results of 2024-25 on Friday.

The district secured a pass percentage of 91.12 per cent.

During 2023-24, the district had secured the second place in the state by scoring a pass percentage of 92.12 percent.

A total of 27,796 students (14,285 boys and 13,511 girls) appeared for the SSLC exams in Dakshina Kannada. Of them, 25,326 have passed (12,441 boys and 12,885 girls).

The pass percentage of boys is 87.09 percent and that of girls is 95.37 percent.

Even though the percentage wise result has decreased exactly by one percent compared to that of the last year, the district has managed to claim the first position. During 2022-23, the district had secured the 17th place with a pass percentage of 89.52.

The results of seven education blocks in the district is as follows:

Puttur-98.47 percent, Moodbidri - 94.27 per cent, Belthangady - 94.18 per cent, Sullia - 92.43 per cent, Mangalore South - 91.59 percent, Mangalore North - 90.81 per cent, Bantwal - 89.70 per cent.

A total of 148 schools in Dakshina Kannada have achieved 100 percent results. Of these, 48 are government schools, 10 are aided and 90 unaided.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has congratulated the students of Dakshina Kannada who have made their remarkable achievement, while lauding the efforts and hard work by their parents and teachers.

The minister has asked the students who were not able to make it, to try again by carrying out more efforts for the upcoming exam.

Speaking to DH, Deputy Director of Public Instructions (Administration) Govinda Madiwala said that among the various measures that were taken by the department, the significant were ensuring the completion of syllabus by December 2024 and conducting of special classes subject wise.

The students who were slow learners were provided with special classes too, he said.

The DDPI further stated that a meeting of the parents of students was conducted fortnightly to monitor the progress of the studies.

Wake up calls were given by the schools to the students every morning and evenings to prepare them for a disciplined study routine.

Apart from these, practice of model question papers, 'Jnana Sinchana' live series through you tube, online doubt clearing sessions and radio phone-in programmes were held.

The students were encouraged to crack the question paper series 'Vijayeebhava' published by District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Udupi, he added.

Achievers Speak

Sanidhya Rao is among the toppers in SSLC examinations who secured second place in the state by scoring 624 out of 625 marks.

She has scored full marks in all subjects and received a 99 out of 100 in Hindi.

She is a student of an excellent English medium school, Kallabettu in Moodbidri. Speaking to DH, Sanidhya said she did expect to score 624 marks.

She said she owes her achievement to her institution and her teachers who have always been supportive. She literally burnt the midnight oil by studying six hours daily. She practiced worksheets regularly.

Sanidhya said she wrote mock examinations at her school every day on all subjects, which made her score excellently.

She aspires to be a doctor and is determined to choose PCMB in the per-university, she added.

Sanidhya is a native of Naravi. Her father is Vasanth Rao, an entrepreneur and mother is Soujanya, Headteacher of Government High School, Koila.

Chinmayi L from Vivekananda English Medium School, Tenkila, Puttur has also scored 624 marks. She scored 99 out of 100 in Social Studies and full marks in all other subjects.

Speaking to DH, she said she would study the text books thoroughly. Her teachers provided her motivation and she did not take any extra coaching. She would study four hours per day during school days and would devote more hours during holidays. Reading and drawing are her favourite pastimes.

She hasn't decided about her career yet. However, she will select PCMB in PU, she said.

Chinmayi's father Dr L Krishnaprasad and mother Dr Amritha are dentists in Puttur.

Srujanadityasheela from Government Junior College, Sullia, Shrilakshmi B Pai from Canara High School, Dongarakeri, Mangaluru, Kunal Ravitej from Bhagavan Sri Satya Sai English Medium High School, Chokkadi, Sullia, Hansika from Pragathi High School, Kaniyur, Puttur, K G Chirasvi from Blessed Kuriakose High School, Guthigaru, Sullia are other students who scored 624 marks.

Students who scored 623 out of 625 are : Bindhu M Suvarna, Sri Mahalingeshwara English Medium High School, Surathkal, Sharon D' Souza, Anugraha English Medium High School, Ujire, Vedanth K S, Rotary English Medium High School, Sullia, Manya M and Prajna Nidwannaya, Vivekananda English Medium School, Puttur and Bharath G Gowda, Excellent English Medium School, Moodbidri.

A total of 18 students from Dakshina Kannada have scored 622 out of 625.

Akhilesh K B from Excellent English Medium School, Moodbidri, scored 622 marks. He scored 124 in English , 98 in Science and full marks in all other subjects.

He is a native of Bengaluru and stayed in a hostel. Speaking to DH he said he used to follow the time table of the hostel to study for four to five hours in a day without fail. Akhilesh said that he focused on understanding the topics which made the papers go easy.

He said he aspires to be an engineer in Artificial Intelligence and will choose PCMC combination in PU.

Akhilesh's father Basavaraj K N is a labour contractor and mother Gayathri is a homemaker.
