A stir by Dalits, protesting their eviction from huts at Vivekanandanagar, entered its second day on Friday.

The protestors  alleged that the court was misinformed about land records, where in reality the Town Municipal Council (TMC) had issued title deeds to residents here.

Title deeds

In 1987, through the TMC, former legislator R Venkataramaiah had distributed title deeds of sites to 95 homeless dalits, at survey number 443/1. “We have been paying tax and are living in accordance to law in this place. But the land owner has misguided the court and trying to evict us from here,” said residents.

They also demanded that khatas be drawn in their names. Residents also staged a protest in front of the mini Vidhana Soudha.

Protesters waited until the Tahsildar H Nanjappa’s arrival and submitted a memorandum to him in this regard and demanded that he call an emergency meeting of officers from the Town Municipal Council.

Dalita Sangharsha Samithi, Farmers Right Action Committee organised the protest which was joined on Friday by Kisan Sabha and State Farmers Association and Hasiru Sene members.
