Dalit organisations took out a protest rally here on Wednesday against the violence during the 200th anniversary celebrations of the Bhima-Koregaon war. Some activists, reported to be of Dalit organisations, threw stones at more than 15 shops on Dr BR Amebedkar Road and damaged glass panes of mostly readymade clothes shops.

The organisations had organised the protest rally from Sambhaji Circle to the deputy commissioner's office.

Members of another group which was throwing stones on buses were apprehended by the police at Channamma Circle.

The protestors sought protection to the community members. They demanded hat the government ensure stringent punishment to the suspects who had raped a schoolgirl belonging to a dalit family at Vijayapura.
