The water level in Harangi reservoir has declined drastically.

Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy has warned of initiating legal action against those who lift water from River Cauvery for irrigating crops.

The district is reeling under a water crisis. The rain that lashed different parts of the district for the last two days has not eased the water crisis.

Water is being supplied through tankers at Koodige, Hebbale, Shirangala and Garvale.

The deputy commissioner said, "The sources of water are drying. The growers and farmers should cooperate with the district administration. The water in the river needs to be saved for consumption. Harangi dam assistant executive engineer has been directed to release 100 cusecs of water from Chiklihole to River Cauvery."

"Using pump sets to lift water from River Cauvery for irrigating coffee plants is banned. If the farmers are found lifting water from the river, then legal action will be initiated against them," she warned.
