Belagavi: Three persons from a family ended their lives by consuming a poisonous substance at their rented house at Joshi Galli, Shahapur here on Wednesday. Another person has survived, and has been admitted to a hospital in critical condition.
The family likely took the drastic step as they were trapped under debt.
Santosh (45), who had been working as goldsmith, was mired in debt and could not repay the same, a source told DH.
He had left his house for few months and had returned recently. Santosh and his two sisters were unmarried. Santosh along with his mother and two sisters consumed poisonous substance. Santosh, his mother Suvarna and sister Mangal died. The other sister is in a critical condition.
Shahapur police are investigating the case.
