The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday asked the Speaker to take a decision on or before May 7 over the disqualification of seven rebel MLAs of the JD(S).

Justice Raghavendra Chauhan issued the direction and said the Speaker had to inform the court about his decision by May 7.

The court was hearing a petition by JD(S) MLAs C N Balakrishna from Shravanabelagola and B B Ningaiah from Mudigere (SC reserved) constituency, who have moved the court against seven of its rebel MLAs - B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan (Chamarajpet), N Cheluvarayaswamy (Nagamangala), A B Ramesh Bandisiddegowda (Srirangapatna), H C Balakrishna (Magadi), Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy (Pulakeshinagar), Iqbal Ansari (Gangavati) and S Bheema Naik (Hagaribommanahalli).

The petitioners had contended that the seven MLAs stood disqualified from the time they voted against the official candidate of the JD(S), B M Farookh, in the Rajya Sabha election held on June 11, 2016. They had sought a direction to the Speaker to disqualify them.
