A delegation of Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences board members met Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and demanded the setting up of a super speciality hospital in Madikeri.

A super speciality hospital will help to provide emergency treatment with the latest facility for the accident victims.

The delegation was led by MLA K G Bopaiah and comprised of board members M A Niranjan, Dr B C Naveen and Dr Jayalakshmi Patkar. They submitted a list of medical facilities that are required in Kodagu district.

The residents of the district have been demanding the setting up of a super speciality hospital in Madikeri for the last several years.

Whenever a major accident takes place in Kodagu, there are no facilities to provide emergency treatment. The accidents in Kodagu have increased with the narrow roads. If the trauma centre is set up, then it will help in treating the critically injured.

At present, cardiac patients have been dependent on hospitals outside the district for treatment. If a super speciality hospital is set up, it will benefit poor patients, said the members who were part of the delegation.

The chief minister promised to hold a discussion with officials in providing basic required facilities for Kodagu Medical College.
