Mangaluru: The Special Investigation Team began digging at the ninth site shown by the complainant witness in connection with mass burial in Dharmasthala police station limits on Saturday.

The location under search lies just 10 metres from the state highway that connects to Dharmasthala. To prevent the search visuals from being exposed to the public, a green shade net has been erected alongside the road.

Puttur AC Stella Varghese, SIT officer Jithendra Kumar Dayama, FSL team, and others are at the spot. The service of a mini earth mover is also being utilised for digging.

So far, the SIT has dug eight locations in the forest area near the Netravati River as shown by the complainant witness. On Thursday, skeletal remains of a male body were recovered from the sixth site. However, no evidence of bodies was found at the other seven locations. The complainant witness has shown 13 sites to the SIT and the SIT had begun the exhumation process from July 29.
