Dharwad, Kalaburagi receive first showers of the season

 Several parts of the state received moderate to heavy rain on Friday. While it rained heavily in Dharwad, there were light showers in parts of Chitradurga district.

Dharwad received the first showers of the season on Friday evening. The rain, which started around 4 pm continued for about 30 minutes. Trees uprooted at several places while two electricity poles fell at UB Hills.

Clogged drains overflowed inundating roads and affecting traffic. Rainwater gushed into low-lying areas in Lakshmisingankeri and other areas. The downpour brought respite to the residents from sweltering heat.

Kalaburagi too received the first rain of the year. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and wind lashed the city and surrounding areas for almost an hour towards evening. The downpour brought much-needed relief for the residents battered by scorching sun. Some villages in Afzalpur and Chittapur taluks received light rain.

A 20-year-old youth was struck dead by lightning on the outskirts of Afzalpur town. The deceased has been identified as Anand Chincholi of Afzalpur.

As many as 55 sheep were washed away in rainwater in Ujjani village of Ballari taluk following heavy rains in the wee hours of Friday while 19 sheep were struck dead by lightning in Pillobanahalli.

Some parts of Chitradurga received moderate rain on Friday afternoon. Godabanahal, Musudihall, Annehal and Sondekola villages of the taluk received rain for an hour. BG Kere and Kondlahally Molakalmuru taluk too received rains for a brief period. There were reports of rain in Nayakanahatty hobli of Challakere taluk and parts of Holalkere taluk also. Parts of Koppal district received rain late on Thursday night.
Various parts of Shivamogga district also received good rain.
