Karnataka Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao on Sunday dismissed media reports of having met, along with Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara, with members of the Muslim community during their visit to Mangaluru on Saturday.

Dubbing such reports ‘misleading and irresponsible’, the minister said that the duo had visited the coastal city merely to take stock of the situation on the ground. “We held a high-level meeting with police officials, where we instructed them to act impartially, and stringently against those involved in creating unrest,” Dinesh Gundu Rao added.

He said that the two of them had received delegations from many groups, one of which was from the Muslim community.
